The project originally comprised a change of use permission from office to day nursery plus some resulting internal space planning.
Since occupation, the nursery proved to be very popular and the internal rooms were re-planned to maximise the space utilisation. To enable this to happen, a new office building was commissioned to accommodate the Yellow Dot administrative staff plus their roving support team, which has freed up space in the existing building. It also formed a training facility, in conjunction with the adjacent Stable building.
The new building is intended to give the impression of a garden pavilion, sitting on the lawn of the adjacent large detached house. Accordingly, it does not try to compete with the heavy masonry forms of the existing buildings. It is light and airy, contemporary in detail and clad primarily in timber. The large areas of glazing maximises the use of natural light and ventilation, and the veranda reduces solar gain and glare.
The building also offers additional security by overlooking the visitors car park and side access to the gardens and play space.
