Bishopstoke Memorial Hall is a new community building commissioned following TKLS Architects' successful competition-winning design.

The single-storey building has been designed as a flexible, multi-purpose venue capable of accommodating a wide range of community activities, including theatrical productions and performances, carnival events, private functions, sports, and pre-school provision.

At the heart of the scheme is a spacious main hall, supported by a range of ancillary accommodation including green rooms, a commercial kitchen, storage areas, and smaller lettable spaces that provide additional flexibility for community use.

The design promotes a strong connection between the building and its surroundings. Large glazed openings allow the main hall to extend onto the terrace and adjoining Glebe Meadow, creating opportunities for indoor-outdoor events and informal gathering. The kitchen also opens directly onto the terrace, enabling convenient access for visitors, including families using the adjacent children's play area.

Environmental performance has been carefully considered throughout the design. Generous roof overhangs help reduce solar gain at ground-floor level, while external sunshades protect the high-level clerestory glazing, minimising the risk of overheating while maintaining excellent levels of natural daylight.

To reduce the perceived scale of the building, the main hall is set back from the roadside frontage. The carefully selected brick colour and pattern reference the neighbouring public house, helping the building sit comfortably within its local context while establishing a distinctive civic presence.
