The site covers three existing buildings, two of which are retail with residential above whilst the other is a derelict shop. The scheme proposes to construct a four-storey building plus basement comprising 8 flats plus a two-storey restaurant at ground and basement level.
The restaurant has extensive glazing at ground floor level which offers a very different setting to the basement which receives light via a light well. The back of house facilities will be housed at the rear of the basement to maximise usable space on the ground floor.
The materials have been chosen to complement the existing buildings which are a mixture of brick and render, many of which are quirky but run down. The primary material is to be black brick with areas of white render, both recessed and proud, together with red aluminium highlights to the some window surrounds. The top floor is recessed to minimize the impact upon the neighbours and is clad in light coloured metal. The residents of the top floor will have an extensive terrace with fine views of the surrounding area.
