The house is a replacement for a bungalow on an east / west facing sloping site. The immediate neighbours are chalet bungalows. Feedback from the local authority restricted the opportunity to create a full two storey house.
The home utilises the slope of the land by accommodating a split level on the ground floor which permits a high ceiling within the primary reception rooms to the rear of the house which also benefit from long views to the east.
The short drive leads to an integral garage and main entrance. The entrance lobby contains an open staircase, study, shower room and leads down to large reception room and kitchen with large utility adjacent.
The first floor contains three double bedrooms including master bedroom and ensuite / dressing area. A large, open landing has views to the front and rear of the house. This can be closed off if required in the future to create a fourth bedroom but is currently used as a library with balcony to the garden.
The building has two main facades. The street elevation is primarily brickwork with part rendered first floor topped with a slate roof, similar to the majority of the neighbours and retaining a chalet bungalow feel to comply with planning requirements.
The garden elevation contains more glazing to take advantage of the views and create bright and airy space to the open plan reception room and kitchen which includes large sliding doors to the terrace.
The original design was adapted by the client during construction and omitted sun shading devices and a corner window above the main entrance.
