The scheme comprises a development of seven houses on a sloping site near Romsey.
The sites is split in two with a residential road running between. One side contains four houses with three to the other and is within an area benefitting from extensive mature trees and planting.
The existing typology is a mix of styles and ages of houses, but traditional materials and details dominate such as red brick, slate and tile mixed with thatch and painted brick and render in smaller quantities.
All of the existing mature trees are retained with the houses, garages and access ways located to suit. Additional screen planting is proposed. The existing site contours are utilised to create tall reception rooms.
The houses are all detached and contain between three and five bedrooms with a mix of detached and integral garages. The smaller houses include large combined kitchen, dining and living rooms with separate utility, whereas the larger houses also include separate drawing rooms, gym, library and comms / plant room with extensive master bedroom suites with dressing room and large entrance halls with open staircases.
Each house is individual and based on traditional forms with pitched roofs utilising a mix of slate, tile or thatch to mirror the nearby houses with the walls finished in brickwork, painted brickwork, render or timber cladding. Chimneys are incorporated to vary the roof line as are expressed roof timbers, traditional moulded bargeboards and dormer windows.
The intention is to appear as if the houses have grown organically over time rather than being part of a development built together.
Although traditional in appearance the houses will accommodate air source heat pumps and underfloor heating, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems and photovoltaic panels, as well as utilising high thermal insulation values and levels of air tightness.
