The project for a local convenience store formed part of a masterplan comprising 130 houses, store and community centre on the outskirts of Salisbury.
The 400sqm store is sited on a prominent corner linking the new residential development with the town centre and backs onto a bank of mature trees.
The site originally had a pronounced slope from front to back so the building and associated parking area were designed to minimise any apparent height differences and fit comfortably into the setting.
The building has a simple and economic rectangular plan with a monopitch roof sloped towards the entrance. This form was taken to minimise any drainage issues that may be encountered with the roof being in such close proximity to mature trees.
The materials include a local warm red brick incorporating recessed panels, with the store entrance being highlighted in cream render. Details to the plinth and brick banding echo some of the newer adjacent houses.
